Uncomfortable Oxford
Project Background
I was commissioned to create illustrated branding for a city tours social enterprise. It all started out as a leaflet for their growing number of guided tours in which they educate the public about Oxford’s history and unveil little known narratives that the city holds. Uncomfortable Oxford is a social enterprise that is dedicated to encourage public debate about uncomfortable aspects of Oxford’s past.
Uncomfortable Oxford is very clear on where they stand with regards to these ‘uncomfortable’ topics: they intend to generate discussion between people with different views and encourage a respectful approach to learn about other people’s view. It was essential that the illustrations represent this effort and do not take sides but instead draw attention to buried historical facts and urge the viewer to ask questions.
A set of illustrations were created for each tour that Uncomfortable Oxford currently runs, a fun map of questions that is now being sold as an A3 standalone poster and a complete brand overhaul including a new logo, social media banners and related assets.
